Joanne holds a degree in linguistics (BA Hons) from the National University of Singapore. Her research experience lies in corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, and language pedagogy. Her current projects involve corpus and sentiment research tracking media portrayals of ageism across 20 countries in the News on the Web (NOW) Corpus; big data analysis involving public health narratives on the recent Covid-19 pandemic; and the implementation of systemic functional linguistics into the team’s methodology in assessing risk perception and management.
